Common Electrical Issue Troubleshooting

Tripped GFCI

Resetting a tripped GFCI outlet. First, you will need to press the "RESET" button on the plug. This outlet may be located in a different bathroom. If your GFCI outlet does not have a "RESET" button then you will need to check the breaker in the electric panel. If the tripped GFCI outlet has the laundry room dryer connected and will not reset then the power wire on the dryer needs to be checked or replaced.

tripped breaker in the electric panel

In your electric panel you will find all of your breakers and labels. If you have a tripped breaker you will need to unplug your devices on that breaker then flip the tripped breaker position to OFF then back ON. You can test the breaker by pressing the TEST button then flipping OFF then ON again. If your breaker continues to trip then you will need to test your devices.

smoke detector chirp

If your smoke detector is chirping this could indicate that the battery needs to be replaced. The batteries in your smoke detectors should be changed annually. To change the battery you will need to rotate the smoke detector counter clockwise then disconnect the power wire harness from the back. Next, open the side flange and remove the old battery. Once removed press and hold the button on front of device releasing any energy. Lastly, reconnect power wire and insert new battery.
